- Thesis title: 'Status of Human Development and Pattern of Intra District Inequality in Purulia, West Bengal: A Geographical Analysis'
- Research outcome: I developed the method to record, map and analyze the micro-spatial pattern of development based on the assumption that the prevalence of underdevelopment is the result of a set of spatially linked causative factors. The discussions showed how the complex interactions of all these factors lead to a degree of variation in the magnitude of development at different places in the particular spatial domain. I took Purulia District in West Bengal as the test field of my method which successfully traced the developed and underdeveloped regions in the district. This findings may be useful in rational allocation of funds, infrastructural development planning and other decision making processes under the aegis of public policies.

AREA OF INTEREST |
- I feel interests in exploring how Geography matters in shaping the pattern of Development. Geography matters for development. It is well evidenced by the uneven spatial distribution of resources, economic activities, literacy, health conditions etc. However, the most striking fact is the co-existence of development and underdevelopment, both globally and locally. The prevalence of underdevelopment is based on a set of spatially linked causative factors. The complex interactions of all these factors lead to a degree of variation of the magnitude of development at different points in the particular spatial domain. Presently, my research is concerned with the effective mapping of these development processes that will contribute to the policy-making processes.
- My research chiefly focuses on analyzing unequal human development, regional planning, and multi-criteria predictive model building and policy prescription.
- I am involved for more than twelve years in experimenting with the development issues at the ground level in various districts of eastern India and trying to integrate with the scholars dealing with the same investigations in the Global South.
